CONTOUR

I’m curious about how people feel about their own identity. I created this new work to present the idea of identity through light whilst simultaneously allowing the viewer to see themselves. Contour aims to bridge the relationship between object and viewer and encourage self reflection.

You see yourself in the light, and the light in yourself.

The fingerprint represents our truest symbol for personal identity. I created an abstract fingerprint pattern within the mirror to hint at the notion of looking within and seeing what’s below the surface.

The mirror is motorised and the lines of light shift very slowly as the reflective surface rotates. With a quick glance you will miss it, but looking for a little longer the rotation soon becomes apparent. The rotation changes the reflection you see of yourself so the work changes you and you change the work.
